The makers of the “Harry Potter” series have already begun developing Season 2, even as the first season is yet to be released, signalling plans to avoid long gaps between instalments.
According to The Times of India, HBO’s network chief Casey Bloys has confirmed that the creative team is already working on the next chapter.
It said the move is aimed at maintaining momentum, especially with a young cast at the centre of the story.
“Our goal is to not have a huge gap, you know, especially because the kids are growing,” Bloys said. However, he added that the series will not follow a strict annual release cycle due to its “massive scale”.
The news outlet noted that the recently dropped teaser trailer has made a massive splash, clocking over 277 million views within just 48 hours -- making it the most-watched trailer in HBO’s history.
The series features Dominic McLaughlin in the lead as Harry Potter, alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
The ensemble cast also includes John Lithgow, Paapa Essiedu, Janet McTeer, Nick Frost and Lox Pratt, among others.
Season 1, based on “Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone”, is slated for release on Dec 25.
The second season is expected to adapt “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets”, continuing a faithful retelling of JK Rowling’s iconic series.
The show, however, has sparked controversy over the casting of Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, with some fan backlash emerging online.
The actor has reportedly received death threats, prompting police to provide security on set.
