State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has said Bangladesh will introduce a new curriculum in phases from 2028, replacing what he described as an “outdated education model” unsuited to modern realities.
Speaking at an event in Mymensingh on Sunday, Hajjaj said the government was working on a “time-appropriate, skills-based and practical” curriculum aligned with technological change and the future labour market.
“It is no longer possible to prepare a new generation with a curriculum designed 50 years ago,” he said.
The state minister stressed the need for coordinated efforts to build reading habits among students, promote correct language use and make education more engaging and effective.
He said the government was prioritising stronger teacher training, student-centred teaching methods, quality learning materials and regular assessment systems.
Criticising the design of existing textbooks, Hajjaj said oversized books discouraged children from learning.
He emphasised shorter chapter-based books and joyful learning environments, adding: “From now on, the only benchmark for every aspect of primary education will be learning outcomes.”
