Students can expect to receive their 2027 textbooks before Christmas in 2026, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has said.

He made the announcement during the inauguration of the Primary Education Competition at the Government Physical Education College ground in Mohammadpur on Monday.

“The books have been revised, and the curriculum has undergone significant changes. God willing, we will be able to introduce a new curriculum and syllabus in 2028. Secondary-level textbooks have already been revised. We are introducing new books for four subjects,” he said.

Students at the primary and secondary levels are usually given free textbooks on Jan 1 each year. This time, however, the minister said the books would reach them before Dec 25.

Milon also announced that the results of the SSC and equivalent examinations would be published by Jul 20.

“We are also working to remove the session backlog and the gaps between SSC, HSC, and university education,” he said.

“We hope that by 2028, students will be able to gain college admission immediately after their examinations and move on to university admission soon after completing college.”

Referring to the proposed allocation of Tk 1.36 trillion for the education sector in the 2026-27 fiscal year, the minister said the government was aiming for major reforms.

“In previous years, education spending stood at 1.69 percent of GDP, amounting to Tk 870 billion. This time, the prime minister has increased it to 2 percent.”

“Of that amount, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has received Tk 470 billion, while secondary and higher education has been allocated Tk 570 billion. We want this spending to bring about a transformative change in education,” he added.
