SCImago Institutions Rankings, or SIR, has ranked Independent University, Bangladesh, or IUB, first among all private universities in Bangladesh. It also ranked tenth among the 28 universities ranked in Bangladesh.
This “remarkable” event boosts the morale of the IUB community, said Kh Aminul Haque, director of media and public relations at the university.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University took the first spot in the Bangladesh rankings, with Mawlana Bhashani University of Science and Technology coming second and Dhaka University third.
The SIR ranking is based on a combination of three sets of indicators that measure research performance, innovation output and societal impact based on the web visibility.
To calculate the ranking each year, results are obtained for a five-year period ending two years before the edition of the ranking. The 2021 publication is thus based on results from 2015-2019. Web indicators, however, are only calculated for the last year.
SIR is a global ranking of scientific institutions published by SCImago Laboratories in partnership with Scopus, an abstract and citation database owned by Elsevier.
SIR is also part of the SCImago Research Group, a Spain based research institution that also publishes reports ranking other research institutions, including government, health and higher education.
