UNICEF extends support to Bangladesh children with $340 million funding

The government has signed an over $340 million deal with the UNICEF for financing a project aimed at helping Bangladeshi children grow properly.

Economic Relations Secretary Kazi Shofiqul Azam and UNICEF Representative in Bangladesh Edouard Beigbeder signed the deal worth around Tk 27.54 billion at the National Economic Council in Dhaka on Sunday on behalf of the government and the UN agency for children respectively.

Officials said the work to be done under the four-year project include childbirth registration, alleviation of the risk of death during birth, prevention of violence, creating the opportunity of education for teenagers, child health development, prevention of child marriage, creating the social safety net for children and raising children’s rights awareness.

A total of 15 government ministries, departments, city corporations and citizens’ or0ganisations will be involved in implementing the project.
