Ireland closed the second day of the Dhaka Test in deep trouble at 98 for 5 in reply to Bangladesh’s imposing 476, as Mushfiqur Rahim’s milestone century and a disciplined spin assault put the hosts firmly on top.
Mushfiqur, resuming on 99 in his 100th Test, needed just nine deliveries to reach his 13th hundred at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium on Thursday, becoming only the 11th batter in history to score a century in his landmark match.
He lasted only a short while longer, edging Matthew Humphreys to second slip for 106, but Litton Das carried the momentum through the morning.

Litton’s century arrived in flourish -- an audacious six and a neat boundary propelling him through the 90s -- as he completed his third successive three-figure partnership, this time a 123-run stand for the sixth wicket.
Bangladesh’s innings ended midway through the second session when Andy McBrine trapped Khaled Ahmed lbw, completing his second Test six-for -- both achieved at the venue.
For the first time in Ireland’s Test history, their spinners claimed all 10 wickets, with Humphreys and Gavin Hoey sharing four between them.
Ireland’s reply began brightly through Paul Stirling, whose early flurry included a slog-swept six off Taijul Islam. But Khaled struck back, pinning him lbw for 27.
Hasan Murad then shifted the tone with a fine spell, removing Andy Balbirnie for 21 via a sharp catch at slip, before dismantling Curtis Campher with the ball of the day -- an arm-ball that swerved past the defensive prod and hit the stumps.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz trapped Cade Carmichael lbw as the batter lingered on the back foot, while Taijul Islam accounted for Harry Tector, who misread a slightly shorter length and was adjudged lbw for 14.
At the close, debutant Stephen Doheny (2*) and Lorcan Tucker (11*) were left to contain the collapse.
Brief scores:
Ireland 98 for 5 (Stirling 27, Balbirnie 21, Murad 2-10) trail Bangladesh 476 (Litton 128, Mushfiqur 106, McBrine 6-109) by 378 runs
