The pacer achieved the record in his 27th match, ahead of left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak, who took his fiftieth scalp in his 32nd.

Sri Lanka was 159-4 after 36 overs in the final of the Tri-Nations Series.

Bangladesh lost the toss in the Tri-Nations Series final and been sent in to field.

Mashrafe looks for redemption

With this match Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza looks to erase the memory of the three final losses the team has suffered at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in the past nine years.

Bangladesh played Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in the Tri-Nations series in 2009. Bangladesh set a target for only 152 but managed to hobble the Sri Lankan chase by taking five wickets for six runs. But a fifty by Kumar Sangakkara and a swift knock by Muttiah Muralitharan led the visitors to a two-wicket victory.

The next heartbreak came in the final of the 2012 Asia Cup, when Bangladesh lost to Pakistan by just two runs. And finally, in 2016, the hosts lost the Asia Cup T-20 final to India by three wickets.

Though the team beat Sri Lanka comfortably in their first match of the Tri-Nation series, the visitors stormed the Bangladesh batting order at their second meeting, dismissing them for only 82.

Mashrafe said the 10-wicket loss was due to a lack of aggression.

Though the middle order, Mahmudullah, Sabbir Rahman and Nasir Hossain, have put in a couple of poor performances recently, Mashrafe says he is confident they will come through under pressure.

The Sri Lankans, meanwhile, look to pick up their second consecutive Tri-Nations series victory.
