Dhaka, Nov 30 (bdnews24.com) - The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Friday named the International Gallery (West) of the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium as the 'Manzarul Islam Rana Stand' in honour of Bangladesh and Khulna Division all-rounder Kazi Manzarul Islam Rana, who died in a road accident in Khulna on March 16, 2007 at the age of 22.
Announcing the naming of the stand, BCB President Nazmul Hassan, who was watching the first one-dayer against West Indies said: "We will not get Manzarul back but this is just our humble effort to embed his name with this stadium forever in recognition of his contribution to Bangladesh cricket."
Manzarul's mother Jamila Khatun, who was present during the formal declaration said: "My son was someone who was a pride for Bangladesh and Khulna. From the day he passed away people of Khulna demanded from their heart the naming of a stand at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium after him. Today our dream has been realised. I cannot thank the BCB President, the Board and the media enough."
