The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) has taken the initiative to welcome newly admitted students of the Summer 2026 semester with a floral gift that encourages them to interact and engage with nature.

In place of the traditional orientation programme, Vice Chancellor Prof Shamsad Mortuza offered a distinct take at the ceremony with a range of innovative initiatives, interactive sessions, cultural performances, and engagement activities at the event on Thursday, May 14, 2026, according to a press release from the university.

One highlight was the “1 Seed Box – 5 Global Goals” initiative, which saw every new ULAB student receive a special box that contained all the necessary materials to grow a flowering Bakul plant.

The vice chancellor invited them to nurture the plants and share their personal stories and experiences of the journey. A dedicated segment has been set up on the ULAB website for students to document and share the growth of their saplings.

It showcased the “sustainability, environmental awareness, and responsible citizenship” at the heart of ULAB’s vision of essential skills and its dedication to innovation and experiential learning, the press release said.

The Student Affair Office kicked off the programme with an ice-breaking session. It was followed by the formal inauguration ceremony, where Pro Vice Chancellor Jude William Genilo, PhD, shared insights on ULAB’s academic vision, student development initiatives, and achievements in global rankings.

“He particularly highlighted ULAB’s remarkable success in the prestigious World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), where the university earned global recognition for its innovative approach to higher education,” ULAB said.

Cultural performances from ULAB Sangskriti Sangsad, various ULAB clubs, and band performances by Grave Chant and Antonagar brought the orientation programme to a close.
