Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) launched its supply chain management major after six years of academic planning and development.
It came through a programme titled “Bridging Academia and Industry: Meet, Connect and Lead”, organized by the Department of General Management under the School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE) on Thursday, says a media statement.
The launch brought together university leaders and industry representatives to discuss the role of supply chain management in business and higher education.
Prof Raisul Awal Mahmood, dean (acting), School of Business and Entrepreneurship of the university, delivered the welcome address at the event IUB Vice Chancellor where Prof M Tamim gave the opening remarks, followed by Didar A Husain, chairman of the Board of Trustees, IUB.
The panel discussion was initiated by Prof Md Mamun Habib, head of the Department of General Management, who highlighted the growing significance of supply chain management in today’s interconnected and technology-driven business environment.
Rahimafrooz CEO Niaz Rahim, Energypac Power Generation PLC Managing Director Humayun Rashid, American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) Director Mirza Shajib Raihan, and World Bank’s Md Mahbub Alam.
The discussion covered the introduction of the supply chain management major and its significance, bridging the gap between academia and industry, the evolution of supply chain management across industries, key supply chain management issues, and the skills required for careers in the field. The panelists also responded to questions from students during an interactive question-and-answer session.
IUB Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Daniel W Lund delivered the vote of thanks while the university’s lecturers Afnan Yusuf and Zerin Momtaz Chowdhury hosted the programme.
Husne Ara Ali, member of the IUB Board of Trustees, and deans, heads, faculty members, students, and guests were present in the ceremony.
