Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq inaugurated the events on the IUB campus in Dhaka’s Bashundhara R/A on Sept 19, the university said in a press release.

IUB’s Education, Science, Technology and Cultural Development Trust Chairman Abdul Hai Sarker and Board of Trustees Chairman A Matin Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion while AVice-Chancellor (Acting) Professor Milan Pagon delivered the welcome speech.

Independence becomes meaningful only when its goals, especially economic and social emancipations, are achieved, the minister said, according to the release.

“To achieve these goals set by Bangabandhu, the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working with the Liberation War spirit. And that is the reason we have become very close to becoming a middle-income country,” he added, the release said.

Librarian Muhammad Hossam Haider Chowdhury delivered vote of thanks after the inaugural session.

Later, Minister Huq inaugurated the month-long book exhibition at IUB Library.

Around 2,200 books on Bangabandhu and the Liberation War will be displayed in the exhibition until Oct 18.

Film shows, drama, musical and cultural events, painting and other contests and open dialogues will also be held.
