Various markets sold chilli for Tk 140-180 a kilo on Monday.
Hilsa fish and salt, the two other commodities that exhibited a spike in prices are also expected to sell at normal prices soon, according to traders.
Chilli was selling at a red hot price of Tk 250-280 a kilo during the start of the week.
A wholesaler of chillies said that the indigenous variety of chilli was being sold at Tk 100 to 120 a kilo while the Indian variety was selling at Tk 80-90 a kilo.
The supply of Indian chillies will further push the price barometer of the commodity down, traders believe.
The price of salt that had buoyed a little before Eid continues to remain high.
Karwan Bazar salt trader Shiekh Bellal Hussain said, "Salt price is expected to come down. We are therefore maintaining a low stock of the commodity."
Fine salt is selling at Tk 38-40 while the coarse grained salt is selling at Tk 25.
Despite a difference of Tk 50-100 in market price, Hilsa is still within the reach of the common man's menu, with a slight pressure on the purse.
A 800-gram Hilsa is selling at Tk 600-650 at the Mohammadpur Agricultural Market, Tk 500-550 at Karwan Bazar and Tk 550-600 at Mohakali market.
Mohammadpur Agricultural Market fish trader Anwar told bdnews24.com that Hilsa price would continue to be low till the 29th after which catching of Hilsa fish would be prohibited.
Hilsa price is expected to go up then, he said.
