Three people were arrested during a raid at the Sajeeb Group’s depot at Textile Gate area under Bayezid Police Station on Sunday afternoon, said the police station’s OC Pradip Kumar Das.

The arrestees are Depot In-Charge Md Mohiuddin, his assistant Md Safiullah and Store In-Charge Mahbubur Rahman.

A total of 120,000 jars of the expired product, packed in 20,000 cartons, were seized during the raid conducted based on a tip-off, Das told bdnews24.com.

“These expired products were supplied in the markets by putting on stickers with fake expiry date as there is a growing demand for it during Ramadan.”

The OC said they had also seized some of those stickers.

Detectives last week had also seized 6,000 cartons of dates and 2,000 cartons of raisins from a cold storage at the port city’s Kotwali.

Demand of these food items and drink increases substantially during the month of fasting of the Muslims every year.
