The Bangladesh Ceramic Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BCMEA), in collaboration with Foshan Uniceramics Expo of China, has held the China-Bangladesh Ceramics Annual Conference 2026.

Under the theme “Empowering Technology, Winning Tomorrow Together”, the conference brought together industry leaders, technical experts, and international delegates at Hotel Lakeshore Grand in Dhaka on Saturday, with discussions focusing on technological advancement, bilateral cooperation, and the growth potential of Bangladesh's ceramics industry.

BCMEA General Secretary and FARR Ceramics Ltd Director Irfan Uddin said, “The theme reflects our belief that meaningful collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation are the foundation of a stronger and more competitive ceramic industry.”

Eva Chan, overseas business department manager at Uniceramics China, noted Bangladesh's ceramics market’s significant room for growth and compared Bangladesh's per capita ceramic consumption of about 1 square metre with China's peak of 6.9 square metres.

“The gap is huge, which means the growth potential is equally huge. This is where the opportunity lies,” she said, urging Bangladeshi manufacturers to focus more on quality, design and branding rather than competing primarily on price.

Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) President Mohammad Khorshed Alam stressed the importance of stronger business ties between the two countries, particularly through technology transfer and skills development.

“I strongly believe that through cooperation with the China business partners, we can create new opportunities in both the local and international market,” he said.

BCMEA Senior Vice President and X Ceramics Group Additional Managing Director Md Mamunur Rashid described ceramics as one of Bangladesh's promising manufacturing sectors, noting that locally made tableware, tiles and sanitary ware are exported to Europe, North America, and West Asia.

BCMEA President and Monno Group of Industries Chairman Moynul Islam called for greater cooperation and knowledge sharing between the two countries.

He encouraged local manufacturers to explore Chinese technologies to improve efficiency and address energy challenges, including electric kilns and hydrogen-enriched heating systems.

BCMEA Senior Vice President and Excellence Ceramics Group Managing Director Abdul Hakim (Sumon) also called for alternative energy sources as the industry faces growing energy challenges.

The opening session ended with a crest distribution ceremony for Chinese delegates and other contributors.

A technical session titled “Technology & Innovation in Industry & Bangladesh Market Potential” followed, chaired by BCMEA Vice President and Monno Ceramic Industries Managing Director Rasheed Mymunul Islam. Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, deputy general manager of Akij Ceramics Ltd, delivered the keynote address.

The technical session featured panellists: RAK Ceramics (Bangladesh) Ltd CEO Mohammad Khourshed Alam; Guangdong Dinghe Superhard Tools Export Manager George Yang; Zhaoqing Jinma Leading Intelligent Technology Co Ltd Sales Engineer Ahmad Jubair; and Renqiu Kangjie Sanitary Ware Sales Manager Jack Ma.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, sponsor presentations, networking and closing remarks by BCMEA Director Mohd Ziaul Hoque (Zico), deputy managing director and CEO of Hua Thai Ceramics Industry Ltd.
