His nephew Priatama Dey told bdnews24.com he identified the 60-year old at Sadar Hospital's morgue around 9pm Wednesday.

Earlier, his car’s driver Md Ibrahim was also identified among the decomposing dead bodies.

He and Ibrahim went missing on Sunday.

Narayanganj City Corporation Councillor Nazrul Islam, and four of his aides, were abducted from Adalatparha near the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road, around the same time.

The councillor and his aides were travelling to Dhaka in a car after attending a hearing in a Narayanganj court.

A car carrying Chandan Sarkar had left the court immediately after Nazrul’s departure.

Members of Chandan’s family believe the lawyer and his driver were also abducted because they had witnessed Nazrul’s abduction.

Nazrul’s car was found abandoned at Rajendrapur, in Gazipur, that very night.

Police found Sarkar's car abandoned at Dhaka's Niketan on Monday night.

Police retrieved six floating bodies from the Shitalakhya River at Bandar Upazila, Narayanganj, in efforts stretching from afternoon to 6pm on Wednesday.

The first body was that of Nazrul, the councillor.

Four of the bodies have so far been identified. Two are those of the councillor’s aides Tajul Islam and Juba League activists Moniruzzaman Swapan, who had been abducted with him.

Bandar Police Station OC Aktar Morshed said members of the families did the identification.

The corpses had their hands and feet tied with bricks fastened to make them sink.
