Dhaka, Sep 26 (bdnews24.com) –Senior journalist Ataus Samad's condition is critical. He has been kept on life support at Apollo Hospitals in the capital.
He is now under close observation in the intensive care unit (ICU) after his left leg was amputated on Tuesday during a surgery.
The former BBC journalist was admitted to Apollo Hospitals on Sunday after his condition deteriorated.
"He is now on life support at the postoperative room. Doctors said his condition is critical. They cannot say anything right now," said Zakir Hossain, a journalist of Bangla national daily Amar Desh, who was at the hospital told bdnews24.com.
He said that even on Wednesday Ataus Samad was transfused with 10 bags of blood.
The Advisory Editor of Amar Desh, Samad was also the BBC's Bangladesh Correspondent for a long period. He was also the Chief Executive of private satellite TV channel NTV. He also taught at Dhaka University as a part-time teacher for a long period.
The family members of the celebrated journalist have requested all to pray for his early recovery.
A special prayer was held at the National Press Club wishing quick cure and good health of Samad, a lifetime member of the Club.
