Dhaka, Aug 13 (BDNEWS) – The security committee of the Home Ministry Saturday has instructed the law enforcing agencies to find out the activities of Maoists linked to the neighbouring Indian and Nepal ahead of the 13th SAARC Summit scheduled for November.
The State Minister of Home Lutfuzzaman Babar presided over the meeting.
Secretaries of the concerned ministries, chiefs of the law enforcing and security agencies, and top officials of the different government bodies, including Director General of BDR, attended the meeting.
The ministry also directed the intelligence agencies to find out whether those Maoists are linked to any left parties of Bangladesh, said an official of the ministry of homes.
According to an intelligence sources, the Maoists groups of the South Asia will hold a meeting in Bangladesh by the end of this year to chalk out their future strategies.
Being worried, the authorities have alerted the law enforcement agencies to strengthen vigilance at the bordering areas in Rajshahi and other frontiers.
According to sources, the regional Maoists had held a meeting to make their 4th conference of Coordination Committee of Maoist Parties and Organisations of South Asia (CCOMPOSA) to be held in Dhaka a success.
The source said 17 Maoist organisations of South Asia are likely to attend the CCOMPOSA conference.
The Purba Banglar Sarbahara Party (PBSP), founded by Siraj Sikder, killed while was in an arms struggle in 1975, is a member organisation of the CCOMPOSA.
The PBSP is coordinating the meeting, sources added.
Presently, five Maoist parties, including Purbo Banglar Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist), PBCP M-L (Red Flag), PBCP M-L People's War (Janajuddha), PBCP M-L Sharbohara and Biplobi Communist Party are active in Bangladesh.
Earlier, the Maoists of the region, taking the opportunity of the 18th congress of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) held in April 2005 in New Delhi, organised a meeting with leaders of left parties, who operate overtly in different countries.
According to sources, the Maoist operatives selected Bangladesh for CCOMPOSA conference with plans to increase Maoist support in the country for their goal of establishing a Maoist country, 'Dandkaranya Desam'.
'Dandkaranya Desam', a Maoist El Dorado in South Asia, stretches from Nepal-Bhutan and covers North Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, south Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Secondly, the Maoists have also planned to intensify their activities in Tamilnadu and Karnataka to complete the region. They are also planning to gain ground in Bangladesh where they have some influence. Keeping this strategy in mind they would meet in Bangladesh by the end of this year.
According to intelligence sources, the combined strength of the Indian and Nepali Maoists is gradually increasing, and they are trying to raise armies in Bangladesh and Bhutan. At present, there are about 16,000 Combatants, 32,000 Militia, 14,000 Cadres, 70,000 hardcore followers and 600,000 Sympathisers in the region.
