The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has held a two-day international conference on higher education quality and transformation.
The event, titled “International Conference on Innovation, Excellence and Quality for Transformation in Higher Education (THE 2026)”, was held from Jun 12–13, 2026 at IUB.
“The event brought together academicians, policymakers, university leaders, accreditation authorities, and quality assurance professionals from Bangladesh and abroad,” the university said in a press release.
Dubbed the “first of its kind in Bangladesh”, the conference focused on curriculum innovation, outcome-based education, assessment, academic integrity, accreditation, digital transformation, governance, leadership, and industry-academia collaboration.
Prof M Tamim, vice-chancellor of IUB, and the chief patron of the conference, chaired the inaugural session and Prof Mesbahuddin Ahmed, chairman of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC), attended as the chief guest.
The session included remarks from Prof Daniel W Lund, pro-vice chancellor, IUB; Prof Shahriar Kabir, technical programme chair; and Prof Md Abdur Razzak, conference general chair. The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof Md Abdul Awal Khan, organising chair.
“The first day featured keynote and invited sessions focused on quality assurance frameworks and academic programme accreditation, including a keynote by Dr Tengku Adeline Adura Binti Tengku Hamzah, director, Center for Assessment and Capacity Building, Quality Management and Enhancement Department, University of Malaya, on institutional practices in accreditation and assessment. Additional sessions covered outcome-based education, engineering education development in Bangladesh, and teaching-learning quality enhancement practices,” IUB said.
“The second day included an IQAC forum panel discussion on integration of policy, strategy, and practice for governance, quality culture, and accreditation in higher education. It featured representatives from the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC), BAC, and vice chancellors of several universities, including Prof Md Saidur Rahman, Prof Gulshan Ara Latifa, Prof MM Nurul Absar, Prof Yusuf Mahbubul Islam, Prof Md Kudrat-E-Zahan, Prof Muhammad Abu Yusuf, and Prof Farheen Hasan. The discussion was moderated by Prof Md Abdur Razzak and Prof Md Abdul Awal Khan.”
Over the two days of the conference, 77 papers – 66 full papers and 11 abstracts – were presented. The closing session included keynote and invited talks on higher education governance, digital transformation, leadership, and future-ready learning systems, featuring Prof Lund, Prof Shahadat Kabir, and Prof Swakkhar.
