A young man has been killed in a clash following an argument at a bar in Cox’s Bazar resort town.

The incident occurred at the bar of Renaissance Hotel around 11:30pm on Thursday, said Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station chief Sheikh Mohammad Ali.

The victim was identified only by a single name as Rashed and his age was unavailable. His body has been kept at the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue, the police officer said.

Police also detained a man named only as Solaiman later that night in connection with the incident.

Citing CCTV footage and bar employees, police said a dispute broke out among several people inside the bar. At one point, two men were called in from outside.

They were later attacked, leaving Rashed fatally injured.

Additional Superintendent of Police Md Wahidur Rahman gave a similar account.

He said Rashed was one of the two men called in from outside. A scuffle then broke out between them and people already inside the bar, during which Rashed was beaten.

Police are examining CCTV footage to identify those involved, and several teams are working to arrest them, Wahidur said.

The bar has been temporarily closed while police collect evidence and complete other procedures at the scene, Wahidur said.

Police also said they would examine the bar’s security arrangements and access controls following the killing.
