Sukharanjan Bali of Pirojpur has accused deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha and 30 others of his abduction and torture after he refused to testify against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi.
Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said Sukharanjan filed the complaint on Thursday with the International Crimes Tribunal.
The witnesses listed include lawyers Tanvir Al Amin, Manjur Ahmed Ansari, Abu Bakar Siddique, Hasanul Banna Sohag and Masud Sayeedi.
Alongside Hasina and Sinha, the list names former justice Nizamul Haque Nasim, former law minister Shafique Ahmed, former state minister for law Qamrul Islam, former justice ATM Fazle Kabir, former investigation officer Helal Uddin, and former MP AKM Awal of Pirojpur-1.
Sukharanjan alleged that in July-August 2010, tribunal investigator Helal summoned him to Rajlakshmi School in Pirojpur to question him about the 1971 killing of his brother Bishabali.
He said he told Helal that Pakistani forces killed his brother, but was pressured to implicate Sayeedi. On refusing, he was beaten.
Later, Sayeedi’s son Masud contacted him and urged him to tell the “truth” before the tribunal. Sukharanjan agreed to testify for Sayeedi.
On Nov 5, 2012, he was abducted from the tribunal gate by police, blindfolded and detained in a windowless cell for two months, subjected to physical and mental torture. He said he was later held at another location for two more months.
Later, he was blindfolded again and taken near the border, where he realised he had been moved to Indian territory. He alleged Border Security Force personnel beat him before transferring him to Basirhat and then Dumdum Central Jail. There, he was held 22 days before rights groups documented his ordeal.
Sukharanjan said although he returned to Bangladesh, he cannot live in Pirojpur for security reasons and remains in hiding.
