The government will introduce the “Family Card” programme before Eid ul-Fitr, according to Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu.
The distribution will begin as a pilot project in eight Upazilas, prioritising the poorest households, he said on Friday afternoon in Lalmonirhat Sadar.
The programme will gradually expand to cover the most marginalised and impoverished families across the country, the minister added.
According to him, the government is committed to fulfilling its election manifesto, explaining that a 180-day “special package” has been adopted and four cabinet meetings have already reviewed its implementation progress.
Dulu also outlined government initiatives to dredge canals and protect the environment during the dry season, aiming to improve inland waterways and irrigation systems.
He said canal identification is currently under way, and the Ministry of Water Resources, LGED, and the disaster management and relief ministry will work together to ensure its success.
On long-term disaster preparedness, he mentioned a target of planting 250 million trees, with 50 million saplings scheduled for planting this year.
Speaking about the ongoing month of Ramadan, Dulu said the government has issued all instructions to keep essential commodity prices within people’s purchasing power.
He added that special attention is being paid to law and order, and the government remains vigilant to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply.
