Twenty-five flights have been cancelled at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport amid the ongoing war in Iran and the wider Middle East.
Airport spokesman Ibrahim Khalil told bdnews24.com on Monday that a total of 25 inbound and outbound flights had been cancelled over the last three days due to the conflict.
Of these, six flights were cancelled on Saturday, 14 on Sunday, and five more until Monday morning, he said.
Despite the disruptions, some services resumed operations. Salam Airways’ OV-403 and OV-401 flights arrived in Chattogram from Muscat on Sunday night.
The airline’s OV-401 flight departed Chattogram for Muscat again on Monday morning.
After remaining grounded throughout Saturday, Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ Jeddah-bound “BG 135” flight left Chattogram at 4:35 pm on Sunday with 419 passengers on board, Ibrahim said.
The cancellations follow the emergence of the crisis in the Middle East after Israel and the United States launched attacks on Iran on Saturday morning.
Iran subsequently carried out counterattacks targeting US bases in several countries across the region.
In the wake of the escalation, the airspace of several Middle Eastern countries was closed.
Ibrahim said airline authorities have been instructed to inform Middle East-bound passengers about flight schedules in a timely manner to avoid confusion.
Passengers who arrived at the airport to travel to Middle Eastern destinations have also been asked to remain at home until further notice.
