The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against the former port city mayor and two officials of the city corporation.
They were accused of embezzling over Tk 140 million of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) in the name of launching a satellite television, Bijoy TV.
The court of Chittagong’s Divisional Special Judge Ruhul Amin acquitted the three after the High Court asked for scrapping the case.
The two officials acquitted alongwith Mohiuddin are former chief executive Imtiaz Hossain and former chief engineer Mokhtar Alam.
“The court included the High Court’s order in the case documents on Thursday and concluded the trial,” Prosecutor Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury told bdnews24.com.
The High Court’s order reached the Chittagong court on Apr 27, he added.
On Dec 16, 2006, Bijoy TV started test transmission but a government order stopped its operations on Mar 8, 2007.
In May 2007, the ACC filed the case against five people, including the former mayor accusing them of embezzling Tke 140 million of the city corporation.
It also said the accused did not take permission from the ministries of local government and information to launch the television channel.
Two of the accused—CCC Education Officer Md Shahidullah and Chittagong Theatre Institute Director Ahmed Iqbal Haider—were dropped from the chargesheet of the case.
In 2008, Mohiuddin moved the High Court when the court issued a rule asking why the case would not be cancelled.
On Dec 10, 2012, the High Court scrapped the case and in December 2013, the ACC informed the court that they will not go for an appeal against the decision.
