The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has put traffic measures in place around parliament ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected MPs and cabinet ministers at the South Plaza.

The move aims to handle the large crowds expected in the area and ensure smooth movement during the event.

The DMP issued a statement urging commuters to avoid congestion by using alternative routes from 8am to 7pm on Tuesday.

"During the swearing-in, traffic along Lake Road from Khejurbagan crossing to Manik Mia Avenue, and from July Memorial Museum (Ganabhaban crossing) to Urojahaj crossing will be restricted," it read.

To mitigate the temporary inconvenience caused by these restrictions, the DMP's traffic division has devised a series of diversions to keep the city's vehicle flow moving:

Mirpur Road to Farmgate via Manik Mia Avenue: North-bound vehicles from Mirpur Road heading toward Farmgate or Sonargaon must travel through the Protirokkha gap, China-Bangladesh Friendship Exhibition Centre, and the Urojahaj crossing, before taking a right turn at the Bijoy Sarani crossing.

Dhanmondi to Farmgate: Commuters coming from Dhanmondi 27 are advised to pass through Asadgate and the Protirokkha gap, turn right toward the China-Bangladesh Friendship Exhibition Centre, and follow the Bijoy Sarani crossing to reach Farmgate.

Asadgate to Farmgate crossing: Traffic from Asadgate should turn left at the Ganabhaban crossing (July Memorial Museum), proceed through the Protirokkha gap, turn right at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Exhibition Centre, and follow the Bijoy Sarani crossing to reach Farmgate.

Elevated Expressway or Indira Road to Dhanmondi: Vehicles descending from the Elevated Expressway or Indira Road must turn right at the Khejurbagan crossing, head toward the Urojahaj crossing, turn left at the China-Bangladesh Exhibition Centre, and pass through the Protirokkha gap before turning left at Asadgate.

Mirpur Road to Dhanmondi: South-bound vehicles from Mirpur Road should navigate through Shyamoli, Shishu Mela, and the Ganabhaban (July Memorial Museum) area before heading straight through Asadgate toward Dhanmondi 27.

Elevated Expressway Usage: To avoid congestion at the Farmgate exit ramp, the FDC (Hatirjheel) ramp will remain fully operational for commuters.

The DMP has sought the cooperation of city dwellers, urging all motorists to avoid Manik Mia Avenue and Lake Road during the specified hours to ensure a smooth transition for the new government.
