A 7-year-old madrasa student has suffered a fractured left arm after allegedly being beaten with a cane by a teacher at a madrasa and orphanage in Manikganj's Saturia.

The family has also alleged that the teacher forced a pen into the child's mouth to stop him crying after the assault.

On Jul 11, the boy's father filed a written complaint with Saturia Police Station against assistant teacher Md Abdullah and madrasa Principal Md Omar Faruk.

Abdullah has admitted striking the child, saying he had been “inattentive” during lessons.

"I hit him twice with a cane. One blow landed on his hand, while the other struck elsewhere as he moved," he said.

Police station chief Md Mosharraf Hossain said a team visited the madrasa after receiving the complaint

"The family has been asked to come to the police station to file a case. They have not done so yet. We will register the case once they come."

The father said his son returned home crying at around 8:45am on the day of the incident and refused to go back to the madrasa.

After repeatedly asking him what had happened, the family noticed swelling and bruising on his left arm and cane marks on his back. An X-ray later confirmed a fracture above the left elbow.

The child said the teacher beat him on the back and arm with a thick cane for failing to recite lessons properly before slapping him.

He alleged the teacher then shoved a pen into his mouth and warned he would be beaten again if it fell out during the next 20 to 25 minutes.

The father said the incident had left his son traumatised.

"He is now frightened whenever he hears the name of the madrasa or the teacher."

Abdullah said he had not realised the boy's arm had been fractured at the time.

"It was a serious mistake. I informed the principal, who is trying to resolve the matter."

Principal Faruk also called the incident wrongful and said disciplinary action would be taken against the teacher.
