The interim government has announced that the draft of the July Proclamation has been finalised.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Chief Advisor’s Office (CAO) said the July Proclamation will be presented to the nation at 5pm on Tuesday in the presence of all parties involved in last year's mass uprising.
Further details will be announced soon, it added.
After the Awami League regime was toppled by a student-led mass uprising last year, the Students Against Discrimination, which spearheaded the campaign, and the National Citizens’ Committee, the precursor to the student-led National Citizen Party, first announced plans to release a proclamation to consolidate the ideals that drove the movement.
On Dec 29 last year, they formally introduced the idea of a “July Proclamation” and set Dec 31 for its release.
Although the government initially distanced itself from the initiative, it later announced its own efforts to prepare the proclamation.
Alongside the National Consensus Commission’s ongoing dialogue with political parties on reform proposals, work began on drafting the July Proclamation and the National Charter.
Last month, a preliminary draft of the July Proclamation was shared with the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the NCP for their feedback.
