A woman has fallen into a drain after a slab overturned while walking on a footpath in Chattogram’s Muradpur.
She was later pulled out by locals.
The incident took place around 3pm on Monday. However, the identity of the woman is still not known.
The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) says that the slab was not installed properly after cleaning the drain a few days ago, thus leading to the accident.
In a video of the incident circulating on Facebook, a woman is seen walking along the footpath in Muradpur, where three slabs are installed side by side, with the right-hand slab noticeably lower than the others.
A man walks ahead, stepping on the two higher slabs. Moments later, the woman steps on the lowered slab. As soon as she steps on the slab, it overturne and flips, causing her to fall in as well.
About 15 to 20 people nearby rushed to the spot and pulled the woman out of the canal.
CCC Executive Engineer Mohammad Rifatul Karim Chowdhury told bdnews24.com, "We arrived at the spot after receiving the news. The canal was cleaned here a few days ago. Then the slab may not have been installed properly.”
A crane has been requested to install the slab, and the area has been cordoned off for the time being.
Earlier, on Aug 25, 2021, 55-year-old Saleh Ahmed went missing after falling into a canal while walking on the sidewalk at Muradpur intersection during waterlogging.
