The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of four divisions and advised inland river ports to hoist cautionary signal No. 1.

BMD Assistant Meteorologist Kazi Jebunnesa told bdnews24.com on Monday afternoon that the affected areas would include parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

She added that the weather would not affect the entirety of the four divisions.

The 24-hour forecast, starting at 6pm, indicated that light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds and lightning, might occur in many places of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, as well as in some areas of Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions.

Moderate to heavy rainfall has been predicted in some places over the period, with day and night temperatures forecast to increase slightly.

Another forecast commencing at 3:30pm said temporary gusty or squally winds with a speed of 45-60kmph accompanied by rain or thundershowers are likely to blow from the west or southwest over Pabna, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chattogram and Sylhet regions until 1am on Tuesday.

Pabna’s Ishurdi Upazila saw the highest temperature in the country over the past 24 hours until 6pm, with mercury hitting 35°C, while Sylhet logged the lowest at 22.2°C.

A staggering 150mm rainfall was registered in Kutubdia Upazila of Cox’s Bazar, marking it the highest nationwide in the 24-hour span.
