The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) will hold public hearings on May 20 and 21 on proposals to revise electricity tariffs at wholesale, transmission and retail levels.
A notice issued by the commission on Wednesday said Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) has proposed changes to both wholesale and retail electricity prices.
Proposals from distribution companies are also under review.
Power Grid Bangladesh (PGB) has submitted a proposal to revise transmission charges, while Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB), Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC), Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO), West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL) and Northern Electricity Supply PLC (NESCO) have filed proposals to revise retail tariffs.
The BERC said following steps would be taken following the hearings, in line with the Electricity Generation Tariff Regulations 2008, Electricity Transmission Tariff Regulations 2016 and Electricity Distribution Retail Tariff Regulations 2016.
BERC Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Sarkar told bdnews24.com that the hearings will cover proposed changes in wholesale, transmission and retail tariffs on May 20 and 21.
However, he did not specify the extent of the proposed increases.
According to earlier proposals, wholesale electricity prices may rise by Tk 1.20 to Tk 1.50 per unit.
As per the schedule, the hearing on PDB’s wholesale tariff proposal will be held from 10am to 1pm on May 20.
On the same day, from 2pm to 5pm, hearings will be held on PGB’s proposal to revise transmission charges.
On May 21, from 10am to 5pm, hearings will be conducted on retail tariff proposals submitted by PDB, BREB, DPDC, DESCO, WZPDCL and NESCO.
All hearings will take place at the auditorium of Krishibid Institution Bangladesh on Khamarbari Road in Dhaka.
Individuals, organisations and institutions interested in participating have been asked to register with the commission by May 17.
Written opinions or submissions must be sent to the commission by May 18.
Registered participants will be able to present analytical data, information and relevant documents on the proposed changes to electricity tariffs at the hearings.
