The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 14 development projects with an estimated cost of Tk 134.45 billion.
The approval came during the second ECNEC meeting under the current BNP-led government, held Sunday at the Secretariat.
Out of the total expenditure, the government will provide Tk 80.89 billion from its own funds, while Tk 53.40 billion will come as project loans.
The remaining Tk 155.9 million will be financed by each implementing agency.
The approved list includes five new projects, five revised ones, and four projects with extended deadlines.
The meeting also decided to form an inquiry committee, headed by the Cabinet secretary, to investigate why the durations of three specific projects under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges were extended five times.
The projects under scrutiny are the Goma Bridge construction over the Rangamati River, and the widening of the Bairagirpul-Bauphal and Barishal-Bhola-Lakshmipur highways.
The 14 projects cover several key ministries.
Under the health ministry, the projects include expanding integrated healthcare access for urban residents.
The finance ministry’s projects include customs modernisation and infrastructure development initiatives.
Under the railways ministry, the projects involve maintenance and rehabilitation of Bangladesh Railway’s western zone and the construction of the Madhukhali-Magura broad-gauge line.
The Local Government Division has four projects, including an emergency water supply scheme for Dhaka and the construction of housing for cleaners of Chattogram City Corporation.
Under the transport sector, the projects include construction of five climate-resilient bridges in Mymensingh and the second phase of the border road covering Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban districts.
The fisheries and livestock sector includes the third revision of the PPR disease eradication and foot-and-mouth disease control project.
