India is sending specialist doctors, nurses, and specialised equipment for burn victims to help those injured in the jet crash at the Milestone School and College campus in Dhaka’s Diabari.
BBC Bangla reported, citing sources, that the move was finalised during discussions between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
A senior official of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi told the BBC, “We expect two specialist doctors, with experience of working in burn units, to reach Dhaka [Tuesday] along with a small team of nurses.
“Medical equipment is being sent, and more doctors will be deployed as needed.”
BBC Bangla reported that shortly after the crash in Dhaka on Monday, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that India is ready to provide any assistance needed.
Later in the evening, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the crash in a post on X, saying: “India stands in solidarity with Bangladesh and is ready to extend all possible support and assistance.”
Since then, the two governments have remained in contact through the Indian embassy in Dhaka.
The report mentioned the Bangladesh government informed Delhi that most of the injured had suffered burn injuries.
It requested a team of specialists, equipment, and advanced medicines to treat the patients.
In response, Delhi acted promptly and arranged to send two specialist doctors and a nurse to Bangladesh.
The process of sending more doctors and nurses from India is under way.
