An earthquake has been felt in Dhaka and several other parts of Bangladesh, causing brief concern among residents.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), a France-based earthquake monitoring agency, the tremor measured 5.6 in magnitude on Sunday.
The agency said the earthquake's epicentre was located in Bhutan.
According to Bhutan time -- which is the same as Bangladesh time -- the earthquake struck at 11:36pm.
EMSC said the epicentre was located 19km north-northeast of Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10km.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake's epicentre was located at 27.64 degrees north latitude.
Assistant Meteorologist Farzana Sultana of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s Seismic Monitoring Centre said, “The earthquake measured 5.6 on the Richter scale. Its epicentre was in Bhutan, about 432km north of Dhaka.”
