The bodies of five Bangladeshi migrants killed in a road accident in Qatar will be repatriated as quickly as possible, State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare Nurul Haque Nur has said.

The assurance came after the five expatriates died in an accident at Al-Shahaniya on Saturday morning.

They were identified as Jashim Uddin, 30, Jibal Uddin, 36, Mostak Ahmed, 30, Jubair Ahmed, 30, and Quader Ahmed, 24 -– all of whom hail from Gachbari village in Sylhet’s Kanaihat Upazila.

In a condolence message issued on Sunday, the state minister expressed sorrow over the deaths.

“The sudden and tragic deaths of these remittance warriors, who contributed to the country’s economy, are deeply painful,” he said.

“The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment has instructed the relevant authorities to bring the bodies home as soon as possible.

“The labour wing of the Bangladesh Embassy in Qatar has also been directed to give top priority to securing appropriate financial compensation for the affected families. The government stands beside the bereaved families in this difficult time.”

The five Bangladeshis were travelling to their workplace in a pickup van when the vehicle lost control.

Six people, including an Indian, were killed at the scene.

The bodies have since been kept at a local hospital morgue.

Ahmed Malek, general secretary of the Jalalabad Association Qatar, said arrangements were being made in coordination with the Bangladesh Embassy to repatriate the bodies at the earliest opportunity.
