Dhaka, March 18 (bdnews24.com)—Parliament restructured the parliamentary watchdog committees Wednesday, drafting in members from the main opposition BNP.
One member from the party was incorporated in each of the 10-strong parliamentary standing committees mandated to ensure transparency and accountability in the functioning of the ministries.
Chief whip Abdus Shahid proposed the names of the BNP MPs and those were passed by voice vote.
The government formed 11 parliamentary committees and 36 standing committees last month giving the BNP two posts of chairmen.
Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury was elected member of the parliamentary standing committee on the law ministry and the public accounts committee.
M K Anwar will sit on the parliamentary standing committee on the finance ministry and public accounts committee.
Chief whip Zainul Abedin Farroque was elected member of the standing committee on the information ministry and the committee on government assurances.
Mahbub Uddin Khokon was incorporated to the standing committee on the energy and mineral resources and foreign ministries.
