The submarines, christened ‘Nabajatra’ and ‘Joyjatra’, will be included in the Bangladesh Navy's fleet once they arrive.
Chinese Rear Admiral Liu Zizhu handed the submarines over to Bangladesh Navy chief Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed at a ceremony at a shipyard in Dalian city in China's Liaoning province on Monday, the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate said in a statement.
The first submarines made for Bangladesh are each 76 metres long and 7.6 metres wide.
The type 035G diesel electric submarines, armed with torpedoes and mines, are able to attack enemy ships and submarines, the ISPR said in its statement.
A 'sea trial' was successfully held following the training of navy officers and mariners to bring the submarines to Bangladesh, it said.
The ISPR hoped the submarines would reach Bangladesh soon and join the Navy's fleet at the beginning of next year.
Admiral Nizamuddin said at the programme that the Bangladesh Navy had commenced its journey as a 'three-dimensional' force after acquiring the two submarines.
He also praised the Chinese Navy for furbishing the submarines and training the crew.
