Dhaka, Nov 11 (bdnews24.com)—The government has decided to launch its first-ever Unicode font of Bengali alphabets to standardise the correct usage of the language that is increasingly being diluted.
The Bangla Academy in a media statement on Sunday disclosed that the font will be called 'Amar Bornomala.'
Different versions of Unicode fonts currently available online do not have approval from the Bangla Academy that promotes the language in Bangladesh, creating problems over a number of issues including in writing of joint-letters.
According to the statement, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding involving the Bangla Academy, Dhaka University's Graphic Design Department, and the Prime Minister's Office's Access to Information (A2I) Programme will be signed on Monday.
Under the MoU, Bangla Academy will be responsible for formulating, standardising and distributing the font. Dhaka University will provide technical support funded by A2I the programme.
