State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has called for “sincere support” from Turkey and the international community for the early repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.
She made the appeal during a meeting with visiting Turkish Red Crescent President Fatma Meriç Yılmaz at the foreign ministry on Monday, according to a media statement.
The Turkish Red Crescent president called on the state minister at her office during her visit.
Recalling the visit of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to Bangladesh during Jun 4 to 6, 2026 and his meetings with the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and foreign minister, the state minister stressed strengthening cooperation in different areas, including engagement in regional and international organisations.
She highlighted that Bangladesh has been hosting over 1.2 million forcibly displaced Rohingya from Myanmar since 2017.

Describing the situation as a major challenge, she emphasised the need for “voluntary, safe, dignified, and sustained repatriation of the Rohingyas at the earliest to Myanmar” and urged support from Turkey and other international partners.
The Turkish Red Crescent president praised Bangladesh’s “extraordinary generosity” in hosting the displaced Rohingyas and continued humanitarian support over the years.
She also highlighted Turkish humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya, including support in food, education, primary and emergency medical care, sanitation, and skills training.
The state minister expressed deep appreciation for the Turkish delegation’s visit and Turkey’s ongoing humanitarian assistance for Rohingyas.
