A petition has been filed with the High Court seeking an investigation into the 18-month tenure of the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.
After a preliminary hearing on Sunday, the High Court bench of Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar set Thursday for an order.
The petition was filed by senior lawyer Mohsin Rashid, while advocate MK Rahman argued on behalf of the petitioner.
Attorney General Ruhul Quddus Kazal represented the state.
Later, MK Rahman alleged that the interim administration had created “anarchy” across all sectors, including the economy and healthcare, during its 18 months in office.
“We sought an investigation into the interim government’s activities,” he said.
“A commission under the Commission of Inquiry Act is necessary so that no elected government can be overthrown in the future.”
The interim government led by Yunus took office three days after the fall of the Awami League government during the 2024 July Uprising.
It stepped down on Feb 17 after the BNP formed a government following its landslide victory in the Feb 12 election.
Mohsin said the petition sought a “complete investigation” into all events during the period.
“The government will decide how that total investigation will be conducted,” he added.
