Although winter has brought cooler temperatures to Dhaka and other parts of the country, Bangladesh has yet to experience a cold wave.
The temperature will both rise and dip until Dec 20, said Meteorologist Shahnaz Sultana.
The mercury dropped to 11.7 degrees Celsius in Naogaon's Badalgachhi on Wednesday, the lowest temperature in the country.
The day before, the lowest temperature was 13.1 degrees Celsius, also recorded in Naogaon.
"We can't predict a specific date for when a cold wave will start," said Shahnaz.
"However, the weather will be quite cold tomorrow [Thursday]. Even if it's not a cold wave, the temperature will drop close to one. This rise and fall in the temperature will continue until Dec 20."
In its regular weather bulletin on Wednesday, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) noted that in the 24 hours from 9am, night-time temperatures across the country are expected to decrease by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius and daytime temperatures will also dip slightly.
Some parts of the north and north-eastern region of the country may experience moderate to dense fog, while other parts may see mild to moderate fog.
In its long-term forecast, the BMD said one or two mild to moderate cold waves were likely to sweep across the western and northern regions of Bangladesh in December.
The BMD classifies a cold wave as severe when temperatures drop below 6 degrees Celsius over a large area. A moderate cold wave occurs when temperatures range from 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, while temperatures between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius are considered a mild cold wave.
Dhaka's lowest temperature as of 6am on Wednesday was 15.5 degrees Celsius, while Cox's Bazar reported the highest temperature at 30 degrees Celsius.
The BMD also forecast a partially cloudy sky and dry weather over the next 24 hours.
