After Friday prayers, a child suddenly asked Prime Minister Tareque Rahman: “Uncle, do you fast?”
Shaking the child’s hand with a smile, the prime minister replied: “Me? Of course I fast.”
He then went on to greet the other children one by one, shaking hands, patting a few on the head, and asking warmly: “Do you fast too?”
The children responded in unison, “We do!”
On Friday, after offering Jummah prayers at the Navy Headquarters Central Mosque in Banani, the prime minister spent some time chatting with children.
Since returning to the country from London, he has been offering Friday prayers at this mosque.
The Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said Tarique’s wife Zubaida Tahman offered Friday prayers in the designated women’s prayer area of the mosque.
“As the prime minister was leaving after prayers, he approached the children and exchanged greetings with them, asking about their well-being. The children spoke to him enthusiastically,” Rumon added.
One child told him, “Uncle, I fasted all days except today.”
From the other side, another child chimed in proudly: “Uncle, I fasted everyday!”
The children burst into smiles and laughter on seeing the premier up close.
Later, as Zubaida came out of the mosque, Tarique waved goodbye to the children and headed towards his car.
