US-Bangla Airlines will operate two special flights on the Dhaka-Dubai-Dhaka route for Bangladeshis stranded in the United Arab Emirates amid the ongoing war in the Middle East.
In a press release issued by the airline on Wednesday, US-Bangla said it is operating the two flights "after taking the humanitarian aspect into consideration".
The airline said that the first special flight on Wednesday will take off from Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport at 7:20pm, bound for Dubai. The same flight will depart Dubai for Dhaka at 12:20am local time.
On Thursday, the second special flight will depart from Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport at 5:15pm. It will depart Dubai for Dhaka at 10pm local time.
US-Bangla said that the trips will be made by 436-seat Airbus A330-300 aircraft. The Dhaka-Dubai flight number will be BS-341 and the Dubai-Dhaka flight number will be BS-342.
The Dubai Airport Authority has given permission to some airlines, including US-Bangla Airlines, Emirates, and Air India to operate special flights after taking the overall situation into considerations, the notice said.
A new conflict sparked in the Middle East on Saturday when Israel and the United States launched attacks on Iran. Iran responded by launching missile and drone attacks targeting US installations in Israel and various countries in the Middle East.
As a result, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan closed their airspace from Feb 28. The circumstances have also disrupted flight operations from Bangladesh to Middle Eastern countries.
This left expatriates stranded at airports, with many worrying as their visas were about to expire.
US-Bangla says that Bangladeshi passengers whose visas have already expired or are about to expire will be prioritised for travel.
For information regarding ticket bookings, the airline has requested passengers to contact any of the US-Bangla Airlines sales centres in Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates or the nearest travel agency.
