A lawyer has initiated a writ petition seeking a court directive for the immediate payment of Tk 1 million in compensation to the families of each individual killed or injured in the fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Diabari.
The plea also seeks an order to prohibit the construction of buildings higher than four storeys in the airport area.
Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akhand filed the petition on Wednesday.
He told bdnews24.com that the appeal may be heard on Sunday by the High Court bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Sayed Jahed Mansur.
He said, “We have sought an order to provide Tk 1 million to the family of each deceased and injured within 24 hours.”
The same High Court bench heard another petition tied to the deadly crash on Tuesday.
The court ordered the formation of an expert committee to investigate the causes of the casualties afterwards.
The government was instructed to form the committee within seven days and complete the inquiry within 45 days.
The court also ordered that student ID cards must include their blood group, parents’ names, and phone numbers; advanced medical treatment for the injured within the country and, if necessary, treatment abroad; compensation of Tk 50 million for the deceased and Tk 10 million for the injured; installation of advanced fire safety systems in educational institutions.
It also issued a rule questioning flights of faulty aircraft over densely populated areas in Dhaka and across Bangladesh.
