Government to fast-track media reform proposals: Yunus

He urges the Media Reform Commission to highlight immediately actionable recommendations for swift implementation

The interim government will take steps to implement media reform proposals that can be enacted without delay, Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has said.

He made the remarks on Saturday when the Media Reform Commission submitted its report at the State Guesthouse Jamuna.

A media statement from the Chief Advisor’s Office later confirmed the development.

“We want to swiftly implement the reform proposals that can be enacted immediately. For that, I urge the commission to separately present the recommendations that require urgent action,” Yunus said.

The chief advisor praised the commission's work, led by senior journalist Kamal Ahmed, calling it “invaluable”.

He suggested making the report accessible to university journalism students and the public.

Upon learning from the commission that Bangladeshi television channels cannot be viewed abroad due to their reliance on a specific satellite, Yunus said: “The government will ensure that expatriate Bangladeshis and interested foreign audiences can access Bangladeshi TV channels.”

Commission head Kamal and other members formally handed over the report to the chief advisor during the event.
