Two officers of the Criminal Investigation Department have testified that voice samples in phone records tied to the July Uprising matched those of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and several other influential figures in the deposed administration.
They gave their accounts on Tuesday before the International Crimes Tribunal, where Justice Md Mohitul Haq Enam Chowdhury was presiding alone in a crimes against humanity case.
The two witnesses are Inspector Md Rukunuzzaman and Sub-Inspector Md Shahed Jubaer Lawrence, both attached to the CID’s digital forensic laboratory in Dhaka.
Rokunuzzaman is the 44th witness in the case, while Lawrence is the 45th.
Hasina is named as a suspect in the case, alongside former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
During his deposition, Rukonuzzaman said he matched one recording with Hasina, another with former Dhaka South mayor Sheikh Taposh, and a third with former Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Habibur Rahman.
