The police superintendent of Moulvibazar has been relieved of his posting barely 10 days after taking charge, making him the third officer removed from a new assignment following scrutiny on social media.
Police Headquarters issued the withdrawal order on Friday, a public holiday, directing Riazul Islam to hand over charge to the next senior officer in Moulvibazar district before reporting to Dhaka on May 16.
No reason was given for the abrupt removal in the order signed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir.
All three withdrawals stem from a single round of appointments.
On May 5, new superintendents were posted across 12 districts. Online chatter began circulating shortly after, and three of those officers have since been pulled out.
The first two cases followed a similar pattern. Mizanur Rahman, posted to Panchagarh, faced Facebook discussions over alleged past corruption.
Mahbub Alam Khan, appointed to Feni, had two July Uprising murder cases against him, a fact that surfaced and spread online.
Riazul's turn came two days before Friday's order, when claims began surfacing that he had paid a bribe to secure the posting and was failing to settle the amount.
Attempts to contact him for comment were unsuccessful.
