Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has urged domestic election observers to carry out their duties in the next general election by strictly following the law, without “intervention”, and while maintaining a “neutral role”.
He was speaking at a dialogue on Tuesday afternoon at the Election Commission in Agargaon with leaders and representatives of domestic observer groups.
“This work will not be easy for you. Many of you are young. Some organisations have experience, while some do not,” said Nasir Uddin.
The CEC also urges caution in appointing observers.

“This is extremely important: whom you recruit and assign. It is you who are responsible for monitoring them in the field. They must act unbiased,” said Nasir.
“If observers act in a politically motivated way, the entire image will be ruined.”
Highlighting the role of observers, Nasir said: “Observers are meant to observe, not to intervene. You cannot influence anyone or make anyone stand in line. You will only report and provide timely recommendations. In the final report, you will offer analysis based on your experience, which can help guide future reforms.”
