Award-winning actor Prabir Mitra has passed away at the age of 84 at a private hospital in Dhaka at 10:10pm on Sunday while undergoing treatment.
He returned to his former home, the Film Development Corporation, or FDC, for the final time—lifeless, yet surrounded by his enduring legacy.
When his body was brought to the FDC at 1pm on Monday, fellow artistes, renowned directors, and producers gathered to pay their respects.
The air was sombre, filled with floral tributes and heartfelt tears.

Prabir had been undergoing treatment in the hospital since Dec 23 with various physical complications.
The elderly actor's physical condition was gradually declining due to lung infection and haemorrhage, until he left for the land of no return.
Mahiyar Mohammad Ishan, Prabir Mitra’s grandson, stood under a tree near the stage where his grandfather’s body lay at the FDC, holding his father Sifat Islam’s hand.
He said he would miss his grandfather deeply.
"Many people knew my grandfather, but coming here, I realised how many people loved him.”
Although he gained fame in the acting world as Prabir Mitra, his real name is Hasan Imam.

Actor Misha Sawdagor, president of the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association, said: “When Prabir Mitra got married, he converted to Islam and took the name Hasan Imam.
“As a Muslim, his funeral and burial are being conducted according to Islamic rites.”
Misha also said that funeral prayers will be held on Wednesday in memory of the late actress Anjana Rahman and Prabir Mitra.
Actors Alamgir, Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Uzzal, Ilias Kanchan, director Mushfikur Rahman Guljar, Shahin Sumon, Chayanika Chowdhury, and many others were in the queue to pay their last respects to Prabir Mitra at the FDC.
The Bangladesh Film Directors Association, Film Artistes Association, Film Producers and Distributors Association, Cameraman Association, Film Journalists Association-BACHSAS and FDC paid their tribute with flowers.

Prabir’s body was later buried in Azimpur graveyard.
Born in Chandpur in 1940, he grew up in Old Dhaka.
He attended St Gregory High School and later Jagannath University.

His acting journey began during his school years when he played a watchman in Rabindranath Tagore's play "Dakghor".
Later, he made his silver screen debut in "Jolchhobi", directed by H Akbar.
Over a nearly four-decade career, Prabir acted in over 100 films, including classics like "Titas Ekti Nodir Nam", "Dui Poisar Alta", "Boro Bhalo Lok Chhilo", and "Beder Meye Josna".
His final film was "Briddhashrom", directed by SD Rubel.

He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1982 for "Boro Bhalo Lok Chhilo" directed by Mohiuddin Ahmad.
He received the Bangladesh National Film Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2018.
