Nahid Rana ripped through Zimbabwe’s batting line-up with a sensational career-best haul of 6-21 as Bangladesh dismissed the hosts for 141 in the opening ODI in Harare on Monday, leaving themselves a target of 142.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bowl first on Monday, but the Zimbabwe openers negotiated the early overs before the Tigers found their rhythm and triggered a dramatic collapse.
The breakthrough came via a moment of brilliance from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who produced an athletic diving stop before firing in a superb throw from a difficult angle to run out Ben Curran for 18.
Taskin Ahmed struck with the following delivery, inducing Brian Bennett into a mistimed shot that was comfortably taken by Mosaddek Hossain.
The pacer then cleaned up Craig Ervine for a duck in his following over to leave Zimbabwe wobbling.
With Innocent Kaia attempting to rebuild the innings, Rana took control.
The pacer unleashed a devastating spell between the 14th and 20th overs, dismissing Sikandar Raza, Wessly Madhevere, Clive Madande, Kaia and Brad Evans in rapid succession as Zimbabwe slumped to 70-8.
The hosts briefly resisted through a spirited ninth-wicket stand of 61 between Newman Nyamhuri and captain Richard Ngarava, frustrating Bangladesh and lifting the total past three figures.
Rana, however, returned to end the partnership, claiming his sixth wicket and completing the finest ODI bowling performance of his career with figures of 6-21.
Mehidy then wrapped up the innings by removing Nyamhuri to seal Zimbabwe's total of 141.
While the modest target should be well within Bangladesh’s reach, the Tigers will be wary of this venue after suffering a shock Test defeat here earlier on the tour, when they were dismissed for 140 and 185 in their two innings.
