The Deputy Commissioners’ (DC) Conference has held a discussion on the roles of the district administrators in “reinforcing manpower” for the military.
"We discussed the instructions of our prime minister on, through professionalism and patriotism, inspiring us to enhance troop strength to the Army, and the role of DCs in that regard," said AKM Shamsul Islam, the defence advisor to the prime minister, after defence-related discussion on the third day of the conference at Dhaka's Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday.
He said, "I gave them instructions on how deputy commissioners should act in order to ensure that he government, from its position of responsibility, helps transform the armed forces into a people-oriented force.”
"I would like to say that we discussed in detail the Total People's War, which was the philosophy of martyred president Ziaur Rahman, and what kind of role our district administrators should have in it."

He said, "We also discussed the role of the Army and our district administrators or civil administration in our past elections and how to further strengthen the harmony in which they worked, how to further increase mutual trust and confidence.
"And above all, we informed them about the instructions of our prime minister, the maintenance of armed forces order and the issues that deputy commissioners should know about to further strengthen the armed forces."
The prime minister's advisor said, "Overall, it was a very fruitful discussion session and their spontaneous participation really impressed us. We hope that, with the support they have promised and in light of that promise, we will be able to reach those goals of the Bangladesh Armed Forces that everyone hopes for, In Sha Allah."
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the DC conference on Sunday morning.
The four-day conference for district and divisional administrators includes a number of sessions on various issues as well as talks by various government ministries and agencies.
