Former parliament speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has been released on bail.
She walked out of Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur at 6:30pm on Sunday, Assistant Inspector General of Prisons Jannat Ul Farhad said.
Senior Jail Superintendent of Kashimpur Females Central Jail Kawalin Nahar said that Shirin Sharmin has been handed over to her relatives.
She was sent to jail on Apr 7 in a case involving an attempted murder during the July Uprising.
Shirin Sharmin had been out of the public eye since the fall of the Awami League government in August 2024.
She was arrested by detectives in her Dhanmondi residence on Apr 7.
She was sent to jail on the day of her arrest. A request to remand her in police custody had not been entertained by the court.
The case in which the former speaker has been shown arrested relates to a protest at the Azimpur bus stand on the afternoon of Jul 18, 2024.
On the day, protesters were attacked at the bus stand when a bullet hit the eye of Ashraful, identified with a single name, according to the case statement.
He received treatment at different hospitals.
Ashraful filed a case on May 25 last year against 130 named individuals, including former premier Sheikh Hasina, and 115-120 unidentified persons.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved the parliament the day after Hasina left the country on Aug 5, 2024.
According to constitutional rules, even if parliament is dissolved, the post of speaker does not become vacant immediately.
The speaker remains in office until the next speaker takes the oath.
Shirin Sharmin, however, resigned on Sept 2, after 27 days.
She entered parliament in 2009 as a member of a reserved women's seat.
She was given the responsibility of state minister for Women and Children Affairs.
